Things to consider if you're interested in competing

Are you looking to compete? There are a few things to consider before competing to understand what it takes and what it is all about.

FINANCES

Competing is very expensive. It is a hobby for most people, especially first time competitors. So it is not part of your job. You will need to set aside a separate budget & be sure this is something you can afford & manage during your busy lifestyle.

RELATIONSHIPS

Competing can be lonely for some. Not everyone around you will support you or understand this new journey you are about to embark on. You must prepare yourself for the change in some of your relationships & start thinking about the type of support system you have when the process of competing becomes challenging. You want to surround yourself with people who support you in every way & can be there for you when the going gets tough.

WORK ETHIC

Competing is very difficult. Don't let anyone tell you different! It will take a strong work ethic. If you want to succeed then you are accountable for all that goes into the whole process. So you must sit and think about your work ethic. Do you have what it takes?

COMMITMENT

You must ask yourself if you are someone who will carry out a goal no matter how difficult the process gets. If yes is the answer, than good! Competitive bodybuilding will test you mentally and physically. You need to be rock solid to the commitment to yourself and your goals.

TIME

Competing take a lot of time and effort. Do you have enough time to devote to meal prepping, posing, & training & cardio? Competing should be something that you do as an extra on the side but it shouldn't take the place of work or spending time with your family. If you have too much on your plate at once, you may not be able to give it your 100% to everything. Therefore, competing may not be for you.

STABILITY

Are you stable with yourself and your body image? If you have a history of disordered eating or disordered thinking about your body, then I do not suggest you compete. It will trigger alot of the disordered past. You must be in love with yourself as you are now because your stage body is not forever. You must understand that fully!!

So as you can see, there are a lot of factors you want to look at before you get into competitive bodybuilding. You must be strong in all of these areas because if you are not, then the sport will not be for you. Keep these in mind before embarking on your journey to the state.
