Whey protein isolate versus casein protein: Know the difference.

It has become more and more popular amongst athletes and avid gym goers to add protein shakes as part of the daily nutrition plan protein shakes can be very convenient when you're on the go, and need a quick source of protein or even another source of protein, other than your typical eggs, fish, chicken, turkey and lean beef. There are two different types of proteins that you can get into your body that are in a powder form. These two types of proteins have stood the test of time. and they are remaining very popular over the years, which are casein and whey. Both of them are derived from milk, but they do differ. Both casein and whey are byproducts of cheese. So as they do cheese making the enzymes in the essence are added to heat the milk, the enzymes in the acids cause the casein in the milk to coagulate or change it to a solid state and then separating from a liquid. So the liquid is the whey protein which is then washed and dried into a powdered form for use in food products, the curves that are remaining or the casing can be washed and dried to create a protein powder, such as cottage cheese.

But there are significant differences between casein and whey protein and how quickly are absorbed into your body, your body breaks down protein into amino acids, which then gets circulated into your bloodstream until they're absorbed. These amino acids will stay elevated in your blood for about four to five hours after you consume casing, but only about 90 minutes after you consume way. So there is a difference between the two proteins, with their digestion rates. Casien protein will digest slowly. While whey protein isolate will digest quickly. Due to the differences in absorption rates casein protein will be good before bed and whey protein would be more likely ideal for after workouts. Whey Protein is definitely better for having after a work out because it's quickly absorbed. And because its amino acid profile. It contains bcaas, which are branched chain amino acids, such as leucine, isoleucine and valine, while casein only contains a higher portion amino acids, histidine, methionine and phenlyalanine. These essential amino acids are important for building muscle, but leucine is the one that's going to jumpstart the process, and that is what we find in whey protein. So whey protein‘s amino acid profile is going to stimulate the muscle building process more than casein protein. Whey has some bioactive peptides & so does casein that benefits your body. Casein has several bioactive peptides that have been shown to benefit your immune system and digestive systems. They also benefit your heart by lowering blood pressure and reduce the formation of blood clots. Whey protein contains a number of bioactive proteins called immunoglobulins that boost your immune system. Immunoglobulins in whey have been shown to have antimicrobial properties, killing slowly the growth of harmful microbes such as bacteria and viruses. So whey & casein do have different beneficial compounds that can benefit your health in many ways.

Whey & casein also vary when it comes to nutrition data. One scoop of whey protein as 110 calories, one gram of fat, two grams of carbohydrates, 24 grams of protein. One scoop of casein protein contains 120 calories, one gram of fat, four grams of carbohydrates, and 24 grams of protein. Casein protein is generally more expensive than whey and whey protein tends to mix better than casein. Whey protein also has a better consistency and taste than casein does. You can mix either of them in water or milk. And you can put it in a liquid with a Blender Bottle, or you could put it in a blender and mix it.

So choosing one over the other won't really necessarily hinder your better results in the gym, but the timing of the protein will greatly affect the role of your body is & it’s assimulation of amino acids. It will provide numerous health benefits & a great source of protein for your body.
